Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is a serious, life-threatening allergic reaction. The most common anaphylactic reactions are to foods, insect stings and medications. If you are allergic to a substance, your immune system overreacts to this allergen by releasing chemicals that cause allergy symptoms. This reaction usually affects more than one part of the body at the same time such as airways narrow, blocking normal breathing, and your blood pressure drops suddenly. While rare, people can go into an anaphylactic shock from aerobic exercise or even walking. In this type of anaphylaxis reaction, the weather or foods a person ingests before exercising is also an important factor.
Anaphylaxis requires immediate medical treatment, including adrenaline shot and seeking urgent medical care. If it isn’t treated properly, anaphylaxis can be fatal. Certain people are more at risk of anaphylaxis. If you have allergies or asthma, your risk is higher.
Accurate diagnosis and successful management of allergies is essential. In immunYs we investigate anaphylaxis thoroughly. We have vast expertise in molecular diagnostic tests (microarrays) which have shown to be very efficient to investigate potential causes of the anaphylaxis.
We provide a personalized management plan to protect you and prevent further episodes minimizing the limitations of living with allergies
