Allergy prevention program
This program is for families of children or “parents to be” of children who are at higher risk for developing allergies due to a family history of allergy, eczema, asthma or previous food reactions. Evidence shows that the first years of life are key in the development of the immune system and adopting strategies for allergy prevention and control of “the allergic march”.
The allergic march (or atopic march) describes the natural progression of allergic diseases from infancy to adulthood. The common steps include in the allergic march are:
- Step 1: Birth to 1 year of age: Skin irritation, hives or eczema
- Step 2: 1-3 years of age: Food allergies
- Step 3: 4-6 years of age: Asthma / Seasonal and environmental allergies
- Step 4: 5-7 years of age: Allergic rhinitis
We offer an individualized plan to assess the risk of allergy development, prevention and control of the allergic march. During this program, we focus on:
- Evaluation of family and personal history
- Assessment of allergy risk
- Discussion of individual barriers and concerns
- Evaluation of risk factors
- Early detection of signs suggesting allergy conditions to control “the allergic march”
- Personalised prevention and management plan
